“What you are aware of you are in control of; what you are not aware of is in control of you.”
― Anthony de Mello

The more perfect you try to be, the more things about yourself you need to supress. Things you don't accept, things that do not match the image of yourself you have created. But just because you hide them doesn't mean they're gone. It means you no longer see the, you don't know what they are doing to you. Every time you get rid of something about yourself you don't like, you make yourself smaller. It gives you an illusion of control, but in reality you have less and less control over who you are. Yau are trapped in a little room inside of your mind. You are no longer in control, although your mind will do anything to convince you it's the opposite.

You are not perfect. You will never be. There will always be something you can change, fix or improve. There is nothing wrong with that. It's a part of human nature, part of who we are. Those imperfections should be a source of inspiration, not self-criticism. This is what makes life worth living – knowing there is always something we can strive for, something yet to be discovered. It gives us hope.
Don't make yourself smaller – expand by inviting more and more parts of yourself you have rejected. Get to know yourself again without distorting the image with any expectations. Open your heart to invite again everything you have left on the way.
